A relatively young race on the Australian calendar, the Yallambee Classic was first raced in 1981 as a Listed race over 1,200 metres, and was won by Apollo’s Flame. In 1986 it became a Group 3 race before quickly advancing to a Group 2 status in 1991 and has remained in this format since.
The Yallambee Classic has been known by various names in its short history. Originally known as the Great Western Plate, it has also been known as the Carrington Blush Plate, the Angus Brut Classic and since 2001 has been known as the Yallambee Classic.
